Clutter

Above is the short experimental film I created in Digital Processes for my first film assignment.  I attempted to explore space, time, consciousness and the act of "de-cluttering" our mind and body from all that which we are exposed to each day. As McLuhan states in The Medium Is the Massage, "At the high speeds of electric communication, purely visual means of apprehending the world are no longer possible..." And thus I wanted to create a holistic experience; one where you not only see the act of someone finding calm, (ie. their actions during yoga,) but you witness brief moments of intimacy through sounds that indicate the clutter that exists in her head. As these glimpses into her consciousness are layered, you start to develop an idea of the entirety of her yoga experience.

I also used this project as a way to better understand the use of such objects as the sony camera, the tri-pod, the external microphone, lighting, etc. Although the video could be quite a bit steadier, I am excited at the prospect of future projects. It was the first film I have ever created...and I really appreciated the medium as it was incredibly fluid.
